Loudoun County
Business Community

In Loudoun, there's strength in numbers, and everywhere you look, it shows. Our business community is over 9,000 establishments strong, and analysis reveals that we currently lead the nation in business growth. You can see it in our world-class corporate campuses, like those for AOL, Verizon, and Orbital Sciences. You can see it in our suburbs and historic towns, where entrepreneurs and established businesses enjoy state-of-the-art connectivity in both centuries-old office buildings and modern, master-planned business parks. And you can see it in Loudoun's western region, where thriving, creative rural businesses maintain the productivity of our land while honoring our agricultural past.

As part of the Greater Washington Region, Loudoun's business community contributes to the nation's highest concentration among large metro areas of "knowledge workers"—often called the creative class—those who use, analyze, and develop ideas and information. The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is committed to creating a business-friendly environment that encourages this business development. As one step in this effort, the Department of Economic Development cultivates the industries for which our region offers a competitive advantage in labor skills and availability, and the location of private and public services. These targeted industries include companies such as:

  • Aerospace and aviation businesses compatible with the operation and future growth at Dulles International Airport

  • Life Sciences operations, such as the world-renowned HHMI Janelia Farm Research Campus and other healthcare and biotechnology businesses

  • Homeland Security, Department of Defense, and other government contractors, who all benefit from our proximity to Washington, D.C.

  • Wineries and other high-yield agricultural businesses, whose success preserves our beautiful open landscapes for the benefit of the entire community.
